Behavioral culture includes the following elements, which we will review as related to the PUNK Armada: Norms, Roles, Rules, Social Hierarchies, and Virtues.
Social norms are those consensual, regulatory, behavioral standards, rules, and boundaries, as well as group member thoughts, feelings, beliefs, customs, communication practices, knowledge, language, and more, that combine to form a group’s culture.
In a series of proposals, which were reviewed here, Citizens of the PUNK Armada agreed on the five following social norms: Honesty, Empathy, Solidarity, Accountability, and Teamwork.

Our virtues were discussed and voted into place through a series of proposals discussed here. By “virtue”, what is meant is: “conformity of one's life and conduct to moral and ethical principles, the quality of doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong, the ‘character muscle’ of the individual that leads to traits of excellence, and the habits that guide us to and through adulthood.”
Taking the top three of our social, intellectual, and moral virtues, we came to a list of nine virtues that best represent the PUNK Armada Network Citizenry. These nine virtues are: Honesty, Liberty, Cooperativeness, Wisdom, Prudence, Knowledge, Truthfulness, Humility, and Ambition. Further, the five core virtues of the PUNK Armada DAO were determined to be, in order of importance: Honesty, Wisdom, Liberty, Knowledge, and Truthfulness.

The PUNK Armada integrated team roles as discussed in ‘Team Roles In Organizations’, which states that there are only nine groupings of related behavioral clusters, now termed “team roles”, that are contributory to team performance and effectiveness. The nine key team roles that facilitate team progress are: Plant, Resource Investigator, Co-ordinator, Shaper, Monitor Evaluator, Teamworker, Implementer, Completer Finisher, and Specialist.

Why rules? Because, as said by Elinor Ostrom: “through their own efforts groups achieve close to optimal results” when they are “given an opportunity to communicate, craft their own rules, and sanction non-conformance to these rules”. Further, “If a group of users can determine their own membership”, and exclude “those who do not agree to these rules”, then “the group has made an important first step toward… developing greater trust and reciprocity.” Simply put, “Rules that are fair, effective, and legitimate are necessary complements to shared norms for sustaining self-governing institutions over time”.
By providing our Citizens and institutions with rules, we hope to create a successful environment and sustainable society where the norms of teamwork, accountability, solidarity, empathy, and honesty thrive, leading to cooperation, harmonious collaboration, integrity, social cohesion, transparency, trust, and understanding amongst Citizens, as well as support for the legitimacy of our system of governance.
